Transworld SKATEboarding

Editor in Chief: Skin Phillips. Publisher: Bonnier. ISBN 0748-7401.

Summary: If the magazine rack in the teen area of my local library is any consideration, this is the magazine to have. It’s full of photographs of skateboarding stunts, photographed with really fast film.

Critical Evaluation: This is a very visual magazine with lots of stop-action photography and few words. The ads look like the articles—all photos of skateboard tricks. Even a novice can appreciate both the art and the skill in extreme skateboarding. Interview dialogue is in skateboard speak, (“What gets you stoked? What bums you out?”) but as I said, words are minimal in this magazine. Skateboarders and skateboarding locations are featured.

About the author: The magazine also has it’s own website (http://skateboarding.transworld.net/).
According to Wikipedia, the print edition continues to boast a 60%+ market share in the skateboarding category and is the largest skateboarding magazine in the world (Audit Bureau of Circulations), with a satellite edition TRANSWORLD SKATEboarding Japan. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transworld_Skateboarding).
